We take the money we earn and put it in the bank for when we need it. We take the monetary gifts we get from others and sock it away in our piggy banks or bank accounts for a rainy day or for times of need.
A Coping Bank is the same — we take what we learn about coping alternatives and put them away, in the backs of our minds, for when we needs them. But during recovery that can be difficult, and during times of crisis it’s often hard to think of what we should do. Make your own Coping Bank and you can go and make a withdrawal when you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, confused (etc.) and in need of healthy ways to handle it.

Reality TV has become a longer running trend than many experts predicted. Who would think that people would rather become so immersed in the drama of other people, when they have their own lives to lead? It’s a sad fact that we have, as a society, become so preoccupied with sensationalism and the dirty laundry of other people that we have stopped really living our own lives. While social media may have a lot to do with it, it is also a personal choice. Try to avoid the excitement or sadness or gossip that is so easy to become entwined in, and start pursuing something you’ve been thinking about that will be more personally rewarding.- So What if you cut back on your social media/ reality TV by maybe 30 minutes and think about what things are important to you that you want to make the time for. What have you been putting of that you can do in those 30min- 1 hour that you will now have the time for.

Basically it should represent you – what matters to you, who you are, what you like, where you’re aiming in life, etc. It can be as simple and abstract or as complex and arty as you like, and you can use shapes, symbol(s), colour, etc to represent things. The idea is that when you look at or recall it, it’s a very powerful way to immediately re-focus you on who you are and what matters to you and what you are aiming for. I thought it was a good idea for a journal exercise, especially when you don’t feel like writing something. And it’s good for people who are very visual learners or arty or whatever.
